Burano is actually 4 islands linked together by bridges. Burano sits near the Northern end of the Venetian lagoon and is an approximately 45 minute boat ride from Venice. Although it is still part fishermens island with boats returning home with the catch of the day each evening but it is also known for its brightly colored houses. The primary economy today comes from tourism as visitors come for sightseeing and to purchase lace goods. The population on Burano is roughly 2,800. If a resident wishes to paint their house a different color, one must send a request to the government, who will respond by making notice of the certain colors permitted for that lot. Burano is quite a beautiful island.
