Freetown Cristiania is a self-proclaimed autonomous district in the Christianshavn neighborhood of Copenhagen, Denmark. Christiania is a former military base that sat abandoned for many years. In 1971, a group of hippies broke down the barricades and began squatting there. Nowadays, approximately 900 people live in the area, comprising a community that has its own rules and regulations completely independent of the Danish government. The residents of Christiania follow counter-cultural beliefs based in the hippie movement, anarchism, the squatter movement, and collectivism. They fly their own flag, have their own currency, and sing their own anthem. They don’t consider themselves part of Copenhagen, Denmark, or the European Union. Those living in Christiania don’t pay taxes. Approximately 900 people live in the commune, with even second or third generations of families growing up...
Rick Rosenshein currently lives in Gowen, Michigan and is a self taught artistic photographer. His interest and desire to capture those special moments in time have led him to take some poetically beautiful photographs. He has a keen eye for composition along with capturing architectural art from unusual angles and vantage points. He has traveled to many countries in Europe along with visiting Scotland, Ireland, Iceland, Faroe Island, Shetland Islands, The Greek Islands and many states throughout the United States and provinces in Canada.
