The Machines of the Isle of Nantes is an artistic, touristic and cultural project based in Nantes, France. At this location robotic animals of various types are conceived, tested and built in the workshops of a theatre company, La Machine. After purchasing a ticket up to 50 people at a time can ride this huge slowly moving mechanical elephant around the grounds. Just to give you an idea of the scale of this robotic elephant...it is 40 feet high, 26 feet wide, 70 feet long and weighs a little over 48 metric tons. This elephant takes 530 gallons of hydraulic oil, 150 HP 3 speed engine using 62 cylinders of which 46 are hydraulic, 6 pneumatic and 10 gas powered.
